Mat's Review:

This is an excellent guide to homeopathy, including advice on strengthening the immune system, individualizing homeopathic treatment, and accessing homeopathic resources. The primary author is a physician and one of the leading homeopathic educators in the United States. More directed as a source of information for the lay person wishing to self-treat, than for the professional homeopath. Revised and updated edition.

Mat's Review:

Now in its 51st edition, this book was originally published many decades ago. The incredible ageless U.S. fitness guru, Jack LaLanne, credits Paul Bragg with saving his life, when he went from sickness to superlative health after attending a Bragg Health Crusade at age 15. In September of 2007, LaLanne celebrated his 93rd birthday and still worked out 2 hours a day, which is quite a testimonial! The book is a bit cheesy and old fashioned in its writing and layout, but still offers good information and inspiration on water fasting, juice fasting, and a variety of other fitness and diet choices that have withstood the test of time.

Mat's Review:

This book certainly must be Mr. Hoffmann’s opus! An excellent resource guide for the serious herbalist, naturopath or MD who wishes to use herbs effectively and to avoid potential contraindications caused by reactions between herbal medicines (phyto-medicines) and prescription drugs. Not a beginner’s manual, this book would make a fine addition to any serious herbalist’s library.

Mat's Review:

Medicine for Mountaineering is the definitive guide to providing emergency medical care when a doctor is miles or days away. This book has a list of ten eminent contributors from the medical profession. It is not a substitute for a basic first aid manual or training, but it is a good companion to David Werner’s Where There Is No Doctor. Could save your life, or the life of someone else, when the doctors are not available. Has more technical medical and anatomy type of information than David Werner’s book.

Mat's Review:

In this book, Diane Stein provides a good introduction to reiki energy healing. Essential Reiki is not strictly about reiki, but combines several other aspects of Asian bioenergy healing traditions with traditional reiki. Excellent illustrations make this a true “how-to” book. In order to truly practice reiki, however, one must receive “attunements” and instruction from a certified reiki master. If Diane’s feminist language or nontraditional approach bothers you, try another reiki reference instead.

Mat's Review:

This is a true “pocket book.” It is very precise, concise, and compact. A perfect little book to carry with you on your travels to the backcountry or the Third World, or to put into your 72-hour grab-and-run kit (See Chapter X, page X). Not only is the author the Associate Director of Trauma at Stanford University Medical Center, he is also a medical officer for the Himalayan Rescue Association. From National Geographic expeditions in the jungles of Belize to the peaks of the Himalayas, he has done it all. Eric’s tidbits of wisdom, called “Weiss Advice,” are particularly helpful for improvising during emergency medical situations.

Mat's Review:

In 1974, when W. Brugh Joy, M.D. was diagnosed with a terminal illness, he was a distinguished and respected member of the Los Angeles medical community. Later that year, he experienced an illuminating meditation, which caused him to give up his medical practice. Six weeks after leaving his practice, he discovered that his illness was completely cured. These experiences compelled him to further his exploration of the healing process in connection with body energies, meditation, and higher levels of consciousness. This book is a fascinating exploration into the nature of healing and offers practical exercises and techniques for working with the body energy fields.

Mat's Review:

I am fascinated by everything that this groundbreaking medical researcher writes! Dr. Becker is a true scientist in every sense of the word. His work takes a fresh look at issues with a creative critical eye that often sees beyond the limits of the current status quo, bypassing the usual bias that most modern medical research receives from its profit motivated corporate sponsors. This book will vastly improve your understanding of the body’s bioelectric healing mechanisms, the positive potential of a new generation of bioelectric healing machines, and the negative effects of the modern world’s sea of electromagnetic radiation that invisibly impinges upon us within our homes, work places and cities. I also highly recommend his earlier work, The Body Electric, which delves into specific research pertaining to the body’s bioelectric healing mechanisms.
